The answers to all of these questions

1. What can be considered as plagiarism ?

   COMPILATIO.NET detects similar passages between :

   • the analysed document
   • all available sources on the Internet
   • the documents analysed in the past
     

   The amount of "similar" passages in a text will alow the user to assess whether the document is plagiarised or not.

 

2. Is a quotation seen as plagiarism ?

   A quotation is rightly identified as a "similar" passage to a source.
   A document containing an excessive number of quotations does not, of course, meet the educational objectives of editorial work.
   
   It is therefore perfectly legitimate that the quotations are checked, along with the rest of the document.
   However, a certain amount of tolerance is applied to enable a document containing some "similar" passages to be considered an original work.
   
   In addition, there is a function that allows the user to choose to leave certain sources or text snippets out of the results.

Finally, please remember that COMPILATIO.NET does not judge the quality of a document: it merely objectively tells you the percentage of similarity.

 

3. Are documents filed in COMPILATIO.NET accessible to other users?

   No, a document is only accessible to the user who filed it, never to another user.

   However, all the documents of an establishment can be compared with each other during the analysis upon request.
   They can even be compared with all documents in the Compilatio database.

   But even in these cases, the confidentiality of the original document is preserved : a user never has access to a document that has not been uploaded into his account.

 

4. Are the analysis results reliable ?

   Many tests have shown that the results of an analysis are completely reliable and very detailed.
   Keep in mind that an analysis is carried out on a given date.
   It is therefore possible that the results could change over time: some documents are put online, others are taken offline ...
   So you can rescan a document to compare it with new sources that have been made available.

    

5. Can you get around COMPILATIO.NET to get a better plagiarism score ?

   Yes, the best way to get around COMPILATIO.NET is to write the document that you will submit in an original way. O)

    

6. As a teacher, is it in my interests to us COMPILATIO.NET ?

   • As a deterrent to students.
   • To save time in identifying all possible sources of plagiarism.

7. Does the search for sources cover a large number of documents available on the internet ?

   Yes! To provide you with the most comprehensive results possible, COMPILATIO.NET follows a complex process of researching sources.

   In addition to its own databases, COMPILATIO.NET software works as a meta-engine: it interrogates various search tools and concentrates the results it has obtained.
   To find a source, COMPILATIO.NET uses the same path as used by the writer of the document being analysed ...
   If the writer found the document Compilatio can find it too!

    

8. How does the COMPILATIO.NET pricing system work ?

   The use COMPILATIO.NET requires a users license and analysis credits.

   • The license gives you access to your workspace, in which you can store your documents.
     
   • The analysis credits let you analyse the documents stored in your account.

 

9. How easy is it to analyse a document of 30 to 50 pages or more ?

   The analysis of a large document is carried out in exactly the same way as a small document.
   Furthermore, the notion of size in Compilatio does not depend upon the number of pages, or the file size in KB, but upon the amount of text to be processed.
   Upon analysing your document, Compilatio tells you the amount of credits that will be consumed.

    

10. Does the cost of an analysis depend upon the size of the document ?

    Absolutely. In this case, Compilatio analyses text. The more text there is in the document, the more the analysis requires the ressources of the software.
    It is not the weight in KB (kilobytes) that will define the cost of the analysis, but the amount of text to analyse.

     

11. Does the use of the "ignore" button generate additional analysis fees ?

    Compilatio is the only anti-plagiarism software that allows you to refine the analysis result of a document "a posteriori".
    You can indeed choose to ignore a source or a passage found by Compilatio. The analysis result is automatically recalculated.
    This function does not consume extra analysis credits.

     

12. How do you load documents into COMPILATIO.NET ?

    Before being analysed, the documents must be uploaded into your account. You can:

    • Upload the documents manually, one by one, directly into your account
      
    • Use the submit function so that the writers can leave their work :
      • Send by e-mail
      • Loading from a specific web page
        
    • Transfer documents directly from a community site to your Compilatio account

     

13. Which major document formats are accepted ?

    COMPILATIO.NET accepts almost all formats used in word processors and on the Internet.

    Among others, the following formats (general list):

14. Can the documents being analysed be written in languages other than French ?

    Absolutely! The COMPILATIO.NET interface is currently in French but the software already works perfectly with documents written in any language using Latin characters.

     

15. What is the difference between the tools, POMPOTRON.COM and COMPILATIO.NET ?

    Both are published by software company COMPILATIO.NET. They both use the same technology for document analysis.

    COMPILATIO.NET has been developed for professional use and is therefore ideal for those who want to analyse numerous documents.
    It provides comprehensive and detailed analysis results and can pinpoint all of the sources, passages and where they were found. COMPILATIO.NET can even visually compare documents.

    POMPOTRON.COM is intended to be used by a wider audience.
    It makes a spot check of records without needing a subscription.
    The analytical results are summarized and designed to identify all the sources found in a document to complete a bibliography and make sure the document does not contain too large a volume of quotations.

    These two tools have different uses, the use of POMPOTRON not decreasing the effectiveness of Compilatio!

     

16. Can I compare two documents together?

    The documents you upload into your account are compared with each other, no action on your part is necessary.

    You can also decide whether you want a document not to be compared with others.

     

17. Are the documents analysed by Compilatio Magister & Studium compared with each other?

    By default, only the similarities between your documents are detected.

    If you have a Compilatio Studium account through your institution (school, university, etc..) you can find the similarities between your documents and the documents contained in the document database of your institution, provided that your institution has agreed to this option.
